Starting up and going out of business are natural processes inherent to European economic life. In fact, 50% of businesses do not survive their first 5 years and bankruptcies account for around 15% of all liquidated businesses. In Europe, 200 000 businesses face insolvency every year, causing the loss of 1.7 million jobs. In the Danube Region, the number of bankruptcies increased by 3.6% last year. Although only 4-6% of bankruptcies are fraudulent, public opinion makes a strong link between business failure and fraud. Many honest entrepreneurs whose businesses have failed feel discouraged from starting up again because of the difficulties and discrimination they face. The Danube Chance 2.0 project aims to develop second chance entrepreneurship policies and practical solutions to improve the entrepreneurial culture to avoid loss of entrepreneurial potential and overcome the stigma of entrepreneurs after business failure.
